🏃 Pace Calculator
Runners think in pace — minutes per kilometre or mile — because it tells you instantly whether you can hold the effort. Enter how far you ran and how long it took to get your pace in both units plus your average speed.
Use it backwards too: pick a target pace for race day and it shows what finish time that pace produces over your distance.
How to use this calculator
Enter the distance you covered and how long it took, and the tool converts it into pace per kilometre, pace per mile and average speed.
- Enter your Distance and choose Kilometers or Miles as the Distance unit.
- Fill in Hours, Minutes and Seconds for your time.
- Read your Pace per km and Pace per mile in minutes and seconds.
- Check Average speed in km/h to see how fast you were travelling.
Frequently asked questions
What does this calculator compute and what are the inputs?
It turns a run's distance and finishing time into your pace: how many minutes each kilometre or mile took, plus your average speed. Inputs are the distance with its unit and the time split into hours, minutes and seconds.
How is pace calculated?
Simple division: total seconds divided by the distance in each unit, then formatted back into minutes and seconds. Miles convert to kilometres with the standard 1.609344 factor, so both paces always agree.
Can you show a worked example?
Run 5 km in 28 minutes and your pace is 5:36 per km, which is 9:01 per mile, at an average speed of about 10.7 km/h. Want a 25-minute 5K? That needs a steady 5:00 per km.
Any tip for using it in training?
Use it backwards for race day: plug in your target distance and goal finish time to find the pace you must hold. Then practise that pace in training runs so it feels familiar when it counts.
