South Asia counts large money in lakhs and crores, while the rest of the world uses dollars, millions and billions — so a price quoted as "50 lakh" needs translating before it means anything internationally. This converter does that translation in one step.

Pick your currency — Indian rupees, Pakistani rupees or Bangladeshi taka — enter the amount in lakhs, and see the value in US dollars, plus the full number and its million and crore equivalents. The built-in reference rates can be replaced with today's rate whenever you need an exact figure.

How to use this calculator

Choose the currency your lakhs are in, enter the amount, and press Calculate. To use a live rate, type it into the custom rate field.

  1. Enter the amount in lakhs (for example, 25 for 25 lakh).
  2. Select the currency — Indian Rupee, Pakistani Rupee or Bangladeshi Taka.
  3. Optionally enter a custom exchange rate (USD per 1 unit) if you have today's exact rate; leave it at 0 to use the reference rate.
  4. Press Calculate to see the dollar value and the full written-out amount.

What Exactly Is a Lakh?

A lakh is a unit in the South Asian numbering system equal to 100,000 — one hundred thousand. Ten lakh make one million, and 100 lakh make one crore (10 million). The system is used daily in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka for salaries, property prices, business deals and government budgets.

Because a lakh is always 100,000 of the local currency, converting lakh to USD is really two steps: multiply the lakhs by 100,000 to get the full amount, then apply the exchange rate. The result depends entirely on which currency the lakhs are in — 10 lakh Indian rupees and 10 lakh Pakistani rupees are very different amounts of money in dollars, which is why this converter asks for the currency first.

Frequently asked questions

How much is 1 lakh in USD?

It depends on the currency. 1 lakh is 100,000 units, so at the reference rates used here, 1 lakh Indian rupees is about $1,120, 1 lakh Pakistani rupees is about $361, and 1 lakh Bangladeshi taka is about $820. Exchange rates move daily, so enter today's rate in the custom rate field for an exact figure.

How many lakhs make a million dollars?

That is different from lakhs of rupees. One million US dollars, converted at roughly ₹89 per dollar, is about 89 lakh Indian rupees — or around 277 lakh Pakistani rupees at Rs 277 per dollar. Use this converter with the amount and currency you actually have.

Is 10 lakh the same as 1 million?

In units, yes: 10 lakh = 1,000,000, exactly one million of the same currency. 10 lakh rupees is one million rupees — but it is not one million dollars, because the rupee and the dollar have different values.

Why does the converter show a reference rate?

Exchange rates change every day, so no fixed rate can stay exact forever. The converter uses recent reference rates (late October 2026) and lets you override them with the exact rate from your bank or exchange service whenever precision matters.
